Family Concert: Izzy Gizmo

Music and narration performed by Ensemble 360 and Polly Ives

Best-selling children’s book, Izzy Gizmo by Pip Jones and illustrated by Sara Ogilvie, tells the enchanting story of an intrepid young inventor who puts her talents to work to rescue a crow that can’t fly.

Original music by Paul Rissmann features pots, pans, whistles and household items (as well as orchestral instruments). Together with story-telling and visuals from the book, this concert is a great introduction to live music for children. It’s full of wit, invention, songs and actions, and plenty of opportunities to join in.

Ensemble 360: Sheffield

Brahms String Quartet in C minor, op. 51, no. 1
Laurence Osborn new work
Korngold Piano Quintet op. 15

The two beautiful Opus 51 quartets were the first works for this formation that Brahms was willing to publish, though only after a period of immense self-doubt and revision. Each is conceived on the same grand scale that characterises Brahms’ symphonic writing. The lavish style of Korngold’s famous Hollywood scores is pre-dated by his wonderful piano quintet in which distinct traces of the late Romantic works of Elgar and Rachmaninov can be detected.

Ensemble 360: Barnsley

Laurence Osborn new work – world premiere
Korngold Piano Quintet op. 15

The incredible musicians of Ensemble 360 return to Barnsley and this time they bring with them a world first; a new piece written by a rising young composer, Laurence Osborn. They also play an old favourite by Brahms which is one of the first pieces for string quartet that Brahms was willing to have published; and only then after a period of revision and immense self-doubt. The lavish musical style of Korngold’s famous Hollywood scores is pre-dated by this wonderful piano quintet in which distinct traces of the late Romantic works of Elgar and Rachmaninov can be detected. Ensemble 360 is also delighted to feature a world première (commissioned by The Royal Philharmonic Society) by rising young composer Laurence Osborn who has already written for the London Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra.
